Comic seller behaviours to look out for
I've been watching a lot of WhatNot UK comic shows over the last 2 years and have bought from more than 50 different sellers. My advice is to avoid the the ones who do the following:
1: Exaggerated prices. They will say something like "this is a £30 book", but afterwards I'd see the eBay last sold was £18 for a NM copy. They want you to feel like you got a great deal when you paid £20 for a VFN- copy
2: Never showing the condition of the comics, just keeping them in the bag & board. Sometimes they will even take them out of the bag and say it looks mint but never hold it close to the camera or show the back/interior.
3: Anything where you are buying 'blind'. This is how they get rid of the stuff that normally wouldn't sell. The odds of getting more than what you paid for are never transparent. Don't believe the seller when they say that they don't know what's in the box! It's just unregulated gambling.
On top of this, please be aware of the hyped up new releases and limited run exclusive variant covers. This is a comic industry marketing technique. WhatNot have taken this FOMO tactic and put them in blind bags. 3 months later, the value has dropped significantly.
There are honest sellers and you can get good deals if you have the patience and time, but it's a minefield. I hope this serves you well.
