Who is responsible for this repair
I posted in another group and got advice to post it here as someone might be able to share the same experiences.
Hi, I’m just wondering if this situation falls under tenant or landlord responsibility.
The glass in our sliding door cracked. We notified the landlord about the repair, but they said it’s our responsibility to cover the full cost, as the glass wouldn’t break unless there was direct impact or extreme heat.
They sent a glazier to inspect and provide a quote. The glazier told us the damage wasn’t caused by us, as there’s no significant point of impact that would suggest someone damaged it. As far as he’s concerned, it’s likely a heat crack.
Now the landlord has offered to cover 50% of the cost, saying this offer expires at the end of the week, and calling it a compromise since they believe it’s the tenant’s responsibility.
So, is a tenant actually responsible for a window crack that wasn’t caused by them?
(We have glazier comment in writing through iMessage)
