My (26F) husband (25M) said I am not your psychologist
I don’t know if I am being dramatic. Me and my husband have been together and know each other for 10 months now. We married 2 months ago and before we married I told he that I have Asperger’s and can experience difficulties with change and some things stress me out more than normal. He was accepting of this and liked me for the way I am. Whenever he has been stressed, I always show him that I am there for him and am quite supportive even it means compromising.
Something that I struggle with greatly is insomnia. When I go travelling, it usually triggers it. I asked him what he thinks about me going overseas to the Middle East for a month because I’m burnt out from work. He said that he recommends for me to go as life will probably get busier as we plan on having children in the near future. I told him that I want to go but I am worried that my insomnia will worsen. He then just said ‘I’m not your psychologist’. This was a bit hurtful tbh because I already have this thing where I don’t like to talk about my feeling because it makes me feel like a burden. And given that we are very new, if he found only that comment difficult to deal with, I am not sure he can deal with me when I am much more stressed. I understand that he is not my psychologist and it’s not like I’m crying to him everyday, I really know that there are boundaries. The fact that he sounds very intolerant to any signs of stress has me quite worried about our future.
For context, my husband is studying to become a psychologist and is still in his first year. I also want to put it out there that I do see a psychologist for nightly and my husband is aware of this.
