Peroneal Brevis & Sesamoid Surgery

34/M/5’10” 235 lbs.
running + f45 nearly every day for several years got me here

8 weeks post-op from this lovely double surgery on the same foot. 4cm longitudinal split tear on the tendon and the sesamoid was in 4 pieces. All accomplished through overtraining and ignoring obvious pain over the course of years. The tendon looked like a shoelace two dogs fought over.

The injuries themselves also limited my physical abilities training-wise at the end of the road before MRI’s + ultrasound discovered the full extent. My vo2max has dropped 56 -> 44, resting heart rate has jumped 38 -> 57, gained weight, etc. Mentals are in shambles as I tie my health to my fitness.

I know this will be a long road ahead. Right now I’m three weeks behind on starting physical therapy due to the timing of moving for new job, new insurance, etc. I’m full weight-bearing in boot for short bursts, been working on spelling the alphabet with foot, have improved range of motion. Still have significant amounts of pain and after the training behaviors that led to this situation, I’m terrified of brushing off pain for fear that it’s reinjury.

If anyone has had either operation done or also had multiple same-foot surgeries at once and have tips on the mental aspect of things it would be greatly appreciated. Doc said my tendon will never be the same so I’m trying to come to terms with that.
