16M looking for first car models/price range

I just got my first job, and I worked out that I will be making 22K a year before income tax (which is ~30%) in my area. I want to save up to buy a car, and I need it to be able to drive in snow and challenging weather conditions (I ski frequently with friends, so preferably AWD) and to be able to fit a few pairs of skis, so small cars and sedans are off the table. How much should I be spending on a used car like this, and what models are good?
