Is United "responsible" for airport equipment issues?

Question

I have a flight due to leave tomorrow morning that is delayed due to an "airport equipment issue". While I've been re-booked on a later connection that sill gets me to my destination tomorrow, this situation got me thinking. Would United generally cover a hotel, for an overnight delay, in this situation?

I'm aware of United's policy that provides hotel and meal vouchers for "reasons within their control", which weather obviously is not, but anyone have experience with an issue like this? FYI, it looks like the automated weather station at the airport is on the fritz (uncontrolled airfield 9pm to 6am).

My guess is United would say, "Aye, not our problem", but I'm curious about any experience you've had with something like this.

Thanks!
