How to use Zero spotlight toss?

I just pulled Zero, I’m flat broke and he’s entirely upgraded which might be it- but I noticed his special ability seems very mediocre. He sets the ball super low and it stops for like a split second… hitting it buffs your damage but your hitting angles are super limited and you need to already be in the air and precisely time it to manage to hit it, but it’s just kind of impractical? I watched some videos and saw people managed to make him set the ball way higher than he does for me and he jump sets- how would I do this?
