Beginner Question, Fish or Longboard?

I surfed a 6 foot foam board for my first year of surfing and I’m looking to get a proper board. I surf the Rhode Island area and most days good conditions are fairly small. I’m 5,10 and 150 pounds and was wondering whether I should get a longboard or a fish. I am worried by getting a longboard that I wouldn’t have as much fun and control as something a bit shorter and more snappy, but then again I’m new to this and would have no clue. Any input and suggestions/help would be amazing to guide me towards my first big purchase
