When did the “crack epidemic” end in the public consciousness?

H.W Bush went on live tv and held up a crack rock, news channels ran stories about it, it’s synonymous with the sky high crime rates of the 80s and 90s. I wasn’t alive back then but it seem as if in 1990 crack is this massive problem thats causing all sorts of horrible things and then in 2000 it’s just not a problem. Was there ever a “we beat crack” kinda of moment?
