How much compound is too much compound?

Hello, I just got hired as a buffer apprentice at a local bodyshop and I have trouble on how much compound i should use...the buffing pad gets clogged quite fast so im wondering if im using too much...we use a wool pad so I wash it after each car we do. But sometimes it gets clogged in the middle of a session. If theres any videos that you can guide me to that would be great too. Thanks!
