Script hole?

I've been following the anime for a while and I arrived on the island of Zou (where Kaido is introduced), it says that Kaido wanted to die and had already tried some ways, it even shows him throwing himself from an island in the sky... Wasn't it just him throwing himself into the sea?? If you can explain to me why he didn't do this, or if it's a plot hole...
