English Pre-req for Med Schools

I’m currently in a career changer premed post bac and completing all the science coursework. However, I’m seeing many med schools also require 1 semester or even 1 year of English (and don’t accept AP). I didn’t take any English during undergrad because my college accepted my AP Language and Literature credits.

For those who were in the same situation, how did you navigate this? Did you take an online English course outside of your postbac? Did you only apply to schools that didn’t have the English prereq?
