How did your n-parent react when you left home?

Planning to move out in the next 10 months. I just know that the frame of time between telling my mother and actually leaving will be like living in hell on earth. How did it go for all of you? Any tips? Just a bit of background knowledge: 6 years ago I got a job opportunity abroad (it was a temporary contract only!) and when I told my mum she reacted in the worst way possible. I'm talking being very verbally abusive, following me to my bedroom and screaming right into my face, threatening to call the company and cancel my job. Also ripping up birthday cards I had given her and throwing them in my face.
