Clarification on 2386

I have a friend that has been trying to leave an abusive marriage that included cheating, passing of STDs, sexual and physical violence and has also since involved stalking and him threatening suicide once she tried leaving.

Even though she has moved out she insists that she can not legally divorce him as it goes against the church. Even after finding out that he was physically abusive toward their children, she still refuses and this leaves her and her kids in a dangerous place.

I’m trying to get a better understanding of 2386 in the Catechist as this seems to apply to her? That she has worked and tried to be faithful to her sacrament while he through his own grave fault destroyed their marriage. Am I accurate in thinking this is what it means? I feel like I’m at my wits end trying to help her, I genuinely feel that her life is in danger.
