I’m scared I’m not supposed to be here

Seeking Advice

I just started nursing school after a year of prerequisites. I want to be a nurse and many of the aspects align with who I am as a person. I love human connection and I want to be the type of nurse to advocate for my patients and make an impact. Right now I’m really wanting to be a labor and delivery nurse because I’ve always found pregnancy and childbirth fascinating.

The one hang up is I don’t know if I’m strong enough. I’m scared of needles, but I don’t know if it’s just when I’m receiving or giving, and that scares me. What if I just simply don’t mesh well with the practice. I know awhile back I was worried about smells and me being somewhat sensitive but through some exposure therapy, I do believe I’m able to tolerate smells a lot better recently. I’m hoping my fear of needles will work the same. I’ve even donated blood four separate times to try and get over it, but still seeing the needles makes my stomach flip.

I guess what I’m really asking is this: Does it get easier? Am I gonna just get used to this as a part of my job? Has anyone else gone through this?

Ps, any advice for nursing school is greatly appreciated
