First time 1.5 bagger, 2 weeks in Japan
Hi everyone! As the title implies, I am planning to 1.5 bag my two-week trip to Japan in early October. I'm a chronic over packer so I normally would check a bag and not worry about it, but my friends and I are going to three different cities (Kyoto, Hiroshima, Tokyo) and I don't want to be the tourist with a huge bag on the train. Also, I've been lurking on the sub for a bit and have been inspired!
We are planning on doing laundry once or twice on the trip so I probably only need enough for about 5 outfits. We may do a light day hike at some point but will otherwise be engaging in typical sightseeing activities (e.g. museums, temples/shrines).
I'd like advice on:
- If there are any weather-appropriate swaps I should make
- I'm packing similar shirts/pants on purpose so I can easily mix and match items for outfits, but could I leave out a pair of pants/shorts or any of the tshirts?
- Right now I only have room for one flannel, which I plan on using for layering on my day trips. Should I bring a second one? If so, what can I eliminate to make room?
- Should I leave out the Crocs and just wear my Hokas on the plane?
Plane outfit:
- Cargo pants
- Plain black tshirt
- Crocs
- Compression socks
- Sweatshirt
- Baseball cap
Personal Item - Swissgear Getaway 18" Weekend Laptop Backpack:

- 2 small notebooks (for temple/shrine stamps and train stamps)
- Mini "emergency" kit (bandaids, chapstick, gum, painkillers, etc.)
- Sling bag for day trips
Carry On - Samsonite Blackstone 20" spinner:
- Toiletry bag
- Makeup bag
- Tech bag with chargers/adapters
- 2 padded bras
- 4 sports bras
- 7 pairs of socks
- 7 pairs of underwear
- PJs (shorts, tshirt, fuzzy socks - I run cold year round lol)
- 5 tank top undershirts
- 2 pairs of shorts
- 2 pairs of cargo pants
- 2 additional black tshirts
- 2 cropped tees
- 1 flannel for layering
Thanks in advance for any guidance y'all might have, and happy to answer questions of course!
