Hiking Alps-Adria-Trail (AAT) from Kranjska Gora to Cividale - Recommendations along the way?

More than excited to start this hike through the Julian Alps in a week. Looking for any recommendations along the way and helpful tips from fellow hikers who have been in on the trail.
Also: first time I have been able to convince my girlfriend to come along with me so it will be her first multi-day hike (I will be carrying most of the weight though). What else can I do to best support her and make this a wonderful experience for both of us?

The trails in that section are about 25kms long, mostly follow the river Soca but also has some significant elevations. We will spend an additional day in Djernica to climb Krn. We will have four days at the beach in Italy at the end as well.
