Cabinet refinishing/ custom shop start up.

All About Projects

Hi guys! Here’s some background, I’m 18 years old, I’ve been putzing around with wood for as long as I remember, when I got into high school I immediately joined a work ex/apprenticeship program at a custom shop. Basically my days were about 80 minutes of school and then 9 hours of work. I luckily was hired by an amazing cabinet maker who also was wonderfully skilled at teaching. I’ve gotten lots of knowledge about the craft now, and am currently working as an installer/service guy for modular cabinets. I want to start a business where I take the existing kitchen and convert what’s there into something far more appealing. This would mostly be refinishing, refacing and soft close hardware installations. I find something like this is far more realistic to achieve while working full time, and then eventually move into full kitchen builds. My main question is how do I go about starting this business? Getting customers? How do I run the business? I’d love to hear any thoughts.

Thanks.
