wearing sunglasses at work
i work at a pizza place and they have pretty bright fluorescent lighting and i turn it off when there’s no one there but obviously when people come in i don’t really have a choice. i wear noise cancelling headphones 100% of the time and nobody has a problem with this and people don’t interact with me much. i’ve been burning out more and more since i started so ive been doing things to help with my sensory issues like headphones, fan, and now sunglasses.
thing is she told me to “lose the sunglasses” i can’t tell if she was ad or irritated or just telling me to take them off and i guess i didn’t realize it would be a problem and just didn’t really understand why she told me to take them off since i had worn them the previous day and al she said was “why are you wearing sunglasses how can you see?”
anyways ive been thinking of disclosing at work but do you think she’d be more receptive if i got like fl41s and should i ask her and disclose before getting them because i don’t know how dark of a tint she would be okay with. i also have no idea how to approach this and i really don’t wanna make a big deal i just want to be less overstimulated all the time.
i feel like offering the fl41s instead of just saying i have autism you have to let me wear my sunglasses shows that im also willing to compromise and accommodate them. idk. i’ve never had to do this before im not sure how.
