I really want to move to Korea and teach english there by getting a bachelor in my home country first, is it worth it even with the student loans from university?
Hello, I’m sorry if this is the wrong sub so please correct me if I am wrong!
So I’ve been really interested in Asia, notably Korea (my favourite country), as well as Japan and Hong Kong for a long long time now 😅 I would love to do a bachelor with the major in Asian Area Studies and minor in English Language, along with taking a couple language elective courses (Korean for sure, and either Japanese or Mandarin), and then get the TEFL certificate after my studies and gaining some experience here.
The only thing is, the loans here are soooo expensive, and I could be in debt likely over 100k as I’d have to live on campus sadly. I am disabled but my province doesn’t have a lot of funding 🥲 But I really would like to pursue this and I have wanted to since I was 12. Is the risk of loans worth it? I’d also be worried about being judged for being in Asian Studies as a white person, but I’m truly interested in the whole continent (including south asia, south east asia, etc, not just east asia).
I’d love to hear what you guys did to get where you are, and whether moving to Korea is worth it?
