Question about copyright for original works

Like let's say I write a story that is completely original in the Original Work tag. If my fic gains traction, and I wanted to copy/paste it into a book, could I do that?

What if someone steals my original work and tries to publish it before I do? Or what if they steal my plot but write it in their own words? Do I have any rights?
