First month in the US
After the disastrous first week, it is now the end of the month. Good things happened, bad things happened.
My academic life is amazing. Math, chemistry, and IT for business are easy; I'm on my way to get an A in those classes, but I absolutely despise my English class. After the orientation week (the week when teachers show you around and usually learn nothing), the professor gave us a 4500 words reading due in 2 days and a project worth 20% of my final score, due in 1 month, but I have nothing to write about a library, say less than analyze some "rhetorical" fk asss shts about it. I also don't understand anything the philosophy teacher was talking about.
The package my parent sent from my country also arrived at my door. Food in my country is so good, especially after living here for some weeks; tasting a fraction of my old, everyday dishes gave me hope. I joined the international student club at my university and made some friends in this foreign country. My friends are interesting, we hang out during club time, events. I even went to a beach and tried surfing. I fell every time, but it was fun. I also joined an academic club to make some more friends. Things have been good for some weeks since I came here.
I feel better, happier, but not so happy with the heat and occasional heavy rain though. But after returning to my room, I feel lonely again, and the anxiety sometimes just randomly hits. I realize my family is not waiting for me anymore, I'm all alone, solving things that will break my mentality and my future if I make an "oppsie". My jet lag still makes me tired, the heat is still killing me slowly, and I feel overwhelmed with my schedule, with clubs, and my fk asss English project. But I know, everything is gonna be better.
Lessons before going to the US:
- If you go to the north, buy a good jacket. The south? Get the best umbrella you can find, heat will affect your performance more than you think
- Join 2 clubs: an international student club/a student from your country club, and an academic club related to your major. Make as many friends as you can.
- Science classes are easy; try to ace them. Humanity classes are hard, and English classes are asss.
- Appreciate your family when you still can.
- Things will get better.
