Purchasing a used car - Advice
I test drove a used 2025 i4 listed at $42K. I told the salesperson I already had a pre-approval and planned to pay cash since I didn’t want a high monthly payment. Everything went smoothly until the end, when he explained that because it was the weekend, the only way to move forward was to finance through them temporarily. In other words, they would “hold” the car by running financing in-house, and if my bank’s check didn’t arrive within three business days, the car would automatically be financed through their lender.
He should have mentioned that upfront instead of wasting both our time. He kept saying someone else was waiting on the car, but it didn’t feel genuine. Honestly, I didn’t even need to drive it today — they could have just held it until next week since Monday is a holiday.
I’m left disappointed with how it was handled. Is this normal?
