In The Maju, life is shorter than a dynamite fuse but being caught between warring countries is still better than the alternative.

The desert city of Djar-Zagazig blossoms from the sands like a black rose. Steam, steel and secrets abound in the City of Trades where Runners like us take on a variety of jobs to make ends meet. The city so large that it would take weeks to explore fully, even if you could do such a thing without risking a knife in the back. It's dangerous, but so full of promise and opportunity that the desperate and adventurous flock to it in droves. The desert metropolis is a maze of streets, back-alleys, bridges and unstable scaffolding. The Wagon, an assembly of democratically elected senators, rules the city. However, this ruling body is deeply influenced by leagues, mob cartels, the old Sultan Ammarduk II (a trace of the former government), the Academies of Arcane Preservation, and ancient secret organizations like the Arabesque.

We met on the last train in, where things got heated in a hurry. We were total strangers trapped in some trouble together and came out the other side as friends and allies. Now that we're in the city, the temperature isn't the only thing heating up. Our flirtations have grown more frequent, playful touches becoming more intentional and it's like we're just waiting for the dam to burst and our building passion to come spilling out.

Maybe the city is dangerous, but together we can survive anything.
