Pop punk is a stupid name for a genre of music
When we discuss music, especially rock, we get a lot of people talking about pop punk. Green Day, Sum 41, Eve 6, The Donnas, Blink-182, All Time Low, and other music labeled as such that has changed American (yes, I am from the US and this is a post specifically tailored for people in the US) culture significantly.
But pop punk as a label is so silly because punk is inherently anti pop. Punk exists to express noncomformity and refusal to integrate corporate culture into personal life. And yet, we categorize Basket Case and Adam's Song into the same category as actual real punk music. It's pop, at best pop rock. And that's okay, liking pop music is okay! I love pop music! My first concert was Fall Out Boy, one of my favorite albums is A Fever You Can't Sweat Out! But it's ridiculous that we're comfortable putting songs like Born For This by Paramore in the same realm as even more digestible and marketed punk like Liberation Frequency by Refused.
