This game is eight years old. Why is it still optimized so poorly?

I wanna be able to continue enjoying Fortnite, but the game's lack of optimization makes it really hard to enjoy sometimes. I am running an i7-6700k, RTX 2060 Super, obviously dated hardware by today's standards. But my frames were doing fine all through chapter 5. Pretty much consistent 165 in performance mode. Ever since chapter 6 came out the game has been a stuttery mess. I can barely bring myself to open the game anymore simply because I know the game is going to skip at a crucial time in a fight that will ultimately result in my death lol.

I get that the game is constantly being updated, but then again, so is CS2, a game that runs ten times better on my hardware and stutters almost never. Like what are they changing that makes the game perform so terribly? I got to know
