My opinion on Sukuna vs Gojo.
Yeah I agree that Sukuna has a place in the story, and he did deserve the character development, but I think he got it in a way that was super unsatisfying, ruining some potential for juicy plot points that could have happened if Kenjaku and Gojo lived.
The author basically buffed Sukuna to be a war machine to make his argument in Gojo's defeat sound reasonable which also back fired because what do you know? Giving character reality bending power on the last panel of the fight is going to make people upset. This is one think and the only thing I don't get about people defending Sukuna. Yes, let's just say that he is stronger than Gojo. It's still frustrating that the entire hype was leading to a abrupt comeback of a character who's entire personality is to entertain itself in a sadistic way. Gege really did done beginning of Baki for the ending of a major ark. Imagine losing a genuinely interesting character to a guy who spent thousands of years as a finger just because he wanted to aura farm some more.
This problem would have been mitigated if Sukuna and his past was revealed by this point of the story, but that would have ruined him in a different respect. Large part of what made Sukuna great in the Shibuya was his ability to aura farm anonymously. I get that people also loved that he destroyed the trope that all villain must have a reason to be, but I think Mahito did that better than Sukuna anways.
Nevertheless, this caused a domino effect and the rest of the series after that point was just cleaning the mess that got created from killing Gojo since now we have no way to beat Sukuna reasonably now that we have no Gojo and have prime Sukuna with built-in anti-gojo tech even if given that he was tired from fighting. (I do love what Gojo's death revealed about him though.) This tipped the domino where it involved buffing Yuji and the other cast, and butchering Kenjaku to compensate, which was a total clown show in my opinion.
Kenjaku for one, has deeper connection with Yuji, and is far more influential to the universe and was the one pulling all the strings until Gege started hating Gojo little too much.
Think about Yuji realizing the truth. Like why did we establish his parenthood just to not do anything about it? Same situation with Megumi but at least he got to fight him for the last time.
The series ended itself on a pretty good note however, on why Sukuna is wrong about people's value, which I think was coming and well deserved storytelling, because it made sense for how quickly the series ended. Also because Yuji deserved this more than anyone to prove a point ever since the beef between Mahito.
I actually just think having the entire plot revolve around Sukuna vs Gojo just because they are the big two only to just kill one off and end the series with some avengers-level-jumping was doing the series disservice in the first place even though it's super badass.
I want to know how people feel about it though.
