I don't get why some people are so attached to the idea of libertarian free will...
I haven't believed in free will for over 10 years. I was young when I stopped, and hadn't made the best choices up to that point. So maybe Im biased. But I just don't see why people are so glued to it and have so many other concepts tied up with it, that we obviously have either way.
What we know for a fact is that we made 1 choice. The contention is whether or not we could have made a different choice, that we didn't make, we were never going to make, and now never are going to have made. All that's lost is an abstract hypothetical we decided against anyway. So like, what's it matter? Why would you want to make a choice that goes against your rationality, your desires or your character? Why do we need more than our reason for doing a thing?
Like bro you can just do stuff for the reasons you did it for. If free will is independent of that then it just risks doing things that go against who you are as a person and could only be right by accident. If free will is heavily dependent on or entirely consistent with that, then it's not clear what free will does besides stamp a checkmark on the compelling choice.
