Best (?) possible "Golden Ending" in TTNW (a guide)

Gameplay

I went for the best possible economy rather than getting rid of Hoover and killing Wallace (you can only dream of getting it all...), and I sadly did not investigate the massacre on question 3 nor nationalize the energy sector on question 30. The guide is:

Visit North Dakota and Vermont (Main can be close, ans so can Arkansas)

  1. This administration has some untapped genius that just go to waste negotiating with those spoiled brats. Moynihan never got a shot to spread his wings. Unruh definitely wants something under his belt before he wallops Reagan. I’ll sit back and let our star power shine. (To get a strong economy)
  2. We'll have to cut back on aid until this new government acquiesces to our goals. Saigon can't be reliant on us forever. This new government needs to learn independence, so whoever takes rein in the South, I hope we've made clear they must hold democratic elections. It's our moral prerogative to not just spread and protect democracy abroad but stop this needless brutalization of our young men. (To leave Vietnam)
  3. This mess that Johnson left us is ridiculous! It's not fair! The bastard just kicked this can down the road so it'd blow up under us. God. Make sure that we're ready to release what happened to the perpetrators when this story gets out. These fellows don't represent our armed forces. (To get cult_support in order to pass Unruh FAP)
  4. Pat is a dear friend. He's smart and capable... but I can already hear complaints about "stinginess" from the bleeding hearts in Congress. Let's give the outlines of this to a liberal like Unruh to build up. He'll remove some of the provisions meant for "welfare cheats" and reinforce benefits to the needy in a way that gives our base something to celebrate—even if we lose some budget hawks in the process. (Unruh FAP)
  5. We've gotta neuter this thing, cut the balls off of it, it's irresponsible, completely unworkable. Talk to Byrd about it, he can cool things off and make sure this doesn't damage our position in peace talks up North. (Leve Vietnam and get south_support in order to pass Unruh FAP)
  6. We get it. His gimmick is that he's southern and he's pissed off at a northern liberal like me. The solution is just as obvious. Pit Long against the conservatives in our caucus who are worried about supporting us. He's the Vice President for heavens sake, it's his one job. (Get south_support in order to pass Unruh FAP)
  7. If the CBO confirms what these estimates are saying the bill is as good as done for. We need to get this back on my desk as soon as possible. (Pass Unruh FAP)
  8. It's enraging to merely suggest that I haven't been doing anything for black America. I am the president of all of America and can't give these groups everything they want all the time. If they can't accept that then they're not ready for the reality of politics. (Gets south_support that I can loose later when I fuck over Hoover slightly, also needed for me to get Lindsay as an opponent)
  9. Those protesters, both sides, have forgotten what we as a country can be when we work together. However, the core message of the student's makes sense. We need unity, and we need peace. Our policy isn't going to waiver but I need to show them that I'm at least listening. (Gets cult_support)
  10. We have seen time and time again how the conditions at home inspire urban unrest of all kinds. I will absolutely find a way to stop inflation from destroying both our finances and our society. (Does not loose me cult_support)
  11. I made my reputation as America's chief law enforcement officer, and I won't abandon it. We cannot tolerate the wholesale destruction of our cities. Deploy the army, and arrest anybody inciting this violence. (Gets south_support and does not loose 2 cult_support, though you can probably win a strong victory against Rockefeller without sending in the troops, most of this guide would not really change)
  12. This entire Reagan situation should knock the Republicans back for a good bit. We should take a quick breather until the new Congress comes in, and then we'll see what we can push through. (Strongest answer)
  13. Who's gonna reward me for being lenient with this prick? Never mind forgiveness, I've got to make sure he kisses the doormat on the way out cause there's no way he's ever getting within an inch of the White House again. (Fires Connally :) Long live Comrade Hall!)
  14. No! No! Our people will rake us over the coals if we press too hard. This is a matter of national responsibility, of changing individual ethos. Get us on television during prime time and we'll address this national nightmare of crime and disorder. (No fucking crime bill and I am on the side of the drugs in case of a war on drugs)
  15. Damn it, we need these elections. Send Taylor over to make it clear this isn't a piece of advice, it's a demand. If he doesn't live up to our democratic principles, we won't have any legs to stand on. (Helps in Arkansas, though working with the chinese might actually be better but I'm not sure)
  16. It'll be a hard sell for Congress to start cutting Johnson's babies. Take another look at some of our old reports. They might swallow that down. (Gets us 2 economy points that we lost when arriving at this question)
  17. It's our chance to get a leg up on him. Send our people to his office. See if we can get our hands on his "secret files." Burn anything compromising. Keep what we can on our enemies. (Gets cult_support, which we lost by firing Connally, by loosing us south_support, also slightly stronger answer)
  18. This shit could blow up in my face if we don't act. I'll talk to Byrd directly. We'll get him to greenlight price controls for a few months. Take some heat off the economy. (Better economy! Now at Level 3!)
  19. It's not like they have the votes to do anything. Just have Albert ram this thing through like we always have done. (Might be the strongest answer but bullying Weinberger should be fine as well, and it's fun so...)
  20. He's been a pain in my ass for nearly a decade now, and I've had about enough of it. Dig up everything we have on him, leave no stone unturned. (Which I could kill him, this answer is the best to win the most of the south if you cannot though)
  21. This all goes back to our offer to give him the State department during the last primary. Thank God that fell through. Keeping quiet will be the best way to drive him mad, anything else we could say would only give him the attention he so desires. (I am NOT helping Humphrey get the nomination in '76, also this answer is stronger anyway)
  22. We need to talk about how we've moved beyond what my successors tried to do. The unfinished business of Johnson and the rest. This was the longest war in American history, let's draw out this moment for as much as we can. (Strongest answer)
  23. I think Lindsay will realize sooner than later that his entire career was built off working with Democrats. I'm sure, now that he has to deal with the average Republican voter, there'll be an awful reckoning within his soul. (Strongest answer)
  24. Ah, well, have him go out there and... er... rally Democrats out on the hill for us. He knows them better than I do, and they certainly like him more. I'm sure he can do this right. (Strongest answer, helps mor ein the south than you'd think, which makes it better than having Long go down south)
  25. Over these past 4 years we’ve made great progress in the strive for equality, not just in race or creed, but in the condition of which we all live with one another. I want to ask the hall and the viewers at home to let us continue in this progress for another 4 years. (Slightly weaker answer than the taking pride answer, but I don't want to start to talk to the portrait of JFK like some insane looser)
  26. Fuck 'em, we'll go the other way around. Some of these civil rights groups are getting real pissy, saying I'm slacking off and no longer committed to the cause. I'll give them what they want and show we're completely serious. (Strongest answer to win the south, though declaring that the party is yours does help in Maine)
  27. Can anyone imagine what America would look like three years into a Lindsay administration? Crippled by race riots, labor strikes, our economy completely ruined. If there's one man who cannot keep a "steady" hand, it's John Lindsay. (Probably the best answer, but calling him a liberal instead helps in North Dakota)
  28. It doesn't matter if you're a liberal or a conservative, we all yearn for a stable America. What John Lindsay offers is chaos, over-spending, overconfident, and hollow politics which can only serve to send our nation backwards. We cannot let that happen. (Best answer, but not by much)
  29. If you're doing bad in both Maine and Arkansas: Roy Wilkins or Cesar Chavez. Elif you're doing bad in Maine: Tom Hayden. Elif you're doing bad in Arkansas: Roy Wilkins. Else: Cesar Chavez
  30. If you want to win Vermont: New York is a modern, glittering city and that's what I symbolize—a look forward. I'll talk about what we can do in another four years, the heights we can reach. If you're doing bad in Arkansas, Georgia, Maine, or North Dakota: Appalachia isn't like the South, the Deep South. They know what it means to suffer. It's that pain that unites us. It's that pain that forces us to continue forward.
