Funding for disabled people to attend UBC Vancouver? Or should I not even think about trying?
Hello!! I am looking into applying for UBC next year, it’s been 4 years since I’ve graduated high school.
I am not from Vancouver, but the specific major, languages and minor is at UBC Vancouver (Asian studies major, English Language minor, and maybe some asian language courses if I’m allowed and if they’re beginner?), but I was looking at the cost of living and tuition, and there’s no way I can afford it on PWD 🥲
The bc grant is only about 1500$ a year (which is def better than nothing so I’m definitely grateful!!), but I’m wondering if it’s worth the loans or if there is some kind of forgiveness here in Canada for low income people like me?
I am also wondering if UBC would have support for people with autism like myself 😅 I hate to be that person and require support and use the resources but I really would love to go to university and get over my disabilities and make something of myself.
Also unrelated is it weird if I’m white and take the Asian Area Studies major? 😅 I’ve been interested in the whole continent since I was 12 and it’s been a huge hyperfixation of mine, along with Europe. I feel like it could be seen as bad though… How would Asian people feel if I took it as a study program? I don’t want to intervene or anything…
Any advice is welcome and taken with gratefulness! Thank you so much 💕
