Honest question/rant about water culture

For real: why is this even a thing? Orchids dont live like that at all in nature. They arent even able to absorb water out of air humidity so why are they put above a glass of water or getting even submerged? There are a lot of posts here searching for help with drowning orchids in water culture. Horrible rotting roots or none at all... Where does this trend come from and is it even possible to do it right so the plant is thriving and not just blooming out of stress? I really dont want to put shame on anyone. Its just hurting my green heart to see this many doomed attempts. If you want a more visual thing than simple pots please try mounting. Thats awesome to look at and really close to natural way of living
