Critique Request: Independent Apparel Design – “Dionysian Sad Boy” Tee
Velvet Thyrsus (VT) is a small independent brand I’m building around a reinterpretation of ritualwear—not the kind that middle-aged divorced men wear during Freemason ceremonies, but pieces that act more like cultural signals than just garments. VT fuses classical references, subcultural aesthetics, and personal myth-making into wearable design.
Inspired by the ancient Greek god of wine and ecstasy, this shirt is called Dionysian Sad Boy. The cracked amphora symbolizes both fragility and frenzy. It's where Dionysian excess meets modern alienation. The back print reads Εἰμί Χάος (“I am chaos”) in classical Greek.
Would appreciate any constructive critique, especially from a design perspective.
Questions:
-
Typography & Layout – Does the font and placement feel strong/intentional, or too plain?
-
Back Print Scale – Does the Greek text sizing look right on the back, or should it be bigger/smaller?
-
Overall Tone – Does this come across as a cohesive, deliberate brand identity, or does it read as too literal/try-hard?
Appreciate your time!
