Has the girl (20F) I’m (23M) seeing lost interest?
So, me (23M) and a girl (20F) matched on Hinge about a month and a half ago. We got on well over text and went out on our first date around the beginning of July. It was a great date, there was definite chemistry, we got on really well in person, we spent quite a long time together without it feeling awkward or boring at all and we both said how we’d like to see the other again.
Which we did, the next day funnily enough. It worked out that that was our only free day for a while so we ended up going out again, this time was just as good as the first and I ended up staying the night at hers. We had our third, and most recent date, a week or two after that (my work schedule changed which opened up another free day for both of us). Again, it went really, really well, I spent the night again and it felt like it was moving toward something more than just a casual fling.
Anyway, after that date, she was off on holiday and then, the day she got back, I went on holiday. Meaning that we now haven’t seen each other for just over a month. We’ve still been messaging every day and, whilst I was away, she said she missed me and was looking forward to when I was back (a mutual feeling). However, towards the end of my holiday, the messages have felt a bit more strained. Her time to respond has been quite long and some of her messages have been drier than usual, with it feeling like I’ve been the one putting more effort into the conversation. But, that could just be me overthinking things (like I often do).
Towards the end of my holiday, we arranged a date to see each other (Thursday just gone), which I was really looking forward to. However, when the day came around, she cancelled at the last minute, saying she was exhausted and too tired to do anything. I believed her (obviously) because she had been working long shifts for a few days before and had had a friend over for a night the day before, so she had been very busy and likely had drained her social battery. It was a shame she cancelled, and due to past experiences of people/‘relationships’ slowly ghosting and fizzling out and cancelling plans à la this, I was worried that it might be a ‘beginning of the end’ type situation. She was very apologetic, and I asked to reschedule, to which she said “yes 100%” and we arranged a new date for Tuesday. After that, all seemed okay for a couple of days; she seemed engaged in conversation, asking me about my day, etc., nothing that made it seem like she was losing interest.
But today, we’ve been messaging, and she has opened and not responded to my last message. I wouldn’t normally think anything of it, but that’s quite out of character for her; she’s never done that before and will usually respond straight after opening it.
So this, combined with the last-minute cancelling as well as the recent, more strained messaging, is making me nervous.
I am an overthinker, but this exact situation has happened to me so many times before. It starts with slower replies and less engaged conversation, then they cancel on plans, then end up ghosting or saying they’re not feeling it anymore. So it’s impossible for me not to see the parallels and get nervous about it.
So, what does r/relationshipadvice think?
(Apologies for the long text, I’m terrible at writing concisely)
TLDR:
Matched with a girl on Hinge a month ago. Had three great dates with chemistry, stayed over twice, seemed to be moving beyond casual. Haven’t seen each other in over a month because of back-to-back holidays but kept messaging daily; she even said she missed me. Recently, though, her replies have gotten slower/drier. She cancelled our last date at the last minute (said she was exhausted, seemed genuine) but quickly agreed to reschedule for Tuesday. Since then, things seemed normal again, until today, when she opened my message but didn’t reply (something she’s never done before). I’m worried this is the start of her losing interest/ghosting, since that’s happened to me before. Am I overthinking, or does this look like a bad sign?
