Is daydreaming and visualizing the same thing?

I’ve always heard and read about athletes who attribute a lot of their success to visualization. Almost as if they were meditating and seeing themselves win/accomplish something.

Is there any difference between that and someone daydreaming about their goals in life. For example, someone looking up an expensive mansion on Zillow and then just imagining life in it?

It seems like the first is a significant factor in an athlete’s success while the latter is just a waste of time. Can anyone help define the differences between the two for me?

Appreciate you all.
