My ex still wants me and I want him but I can't get back
My ex and I were together for a year. He was my first boyfriend and the only person I've ever been with. Two months ago, I saw messages on his phone where he was still texting his exes, making video calls at night and asking them how they were doing, even reminiscing about sexual experiences together. I broke up with him and told him that I didn't think it was right for him to do that. He told me that I just didn't understand and that I shouldn't have even looked at his conversations. After a week, he came back apologizing and promised me he would do everything he could to make me forgive him. But I was sure I couldn't trust him again, besides, I had already told him before that I felt insecure about him talking to his exes.
My friends and family supported me throughout the breakup process, and I told them about all the bad things I saw and how he made me feel during the relationship.
The thing is, during these months, I don't think I've worked on getting over him. Sometimes I looked at his social media and still hoped that one day we would get back together, hoping that he would change. I even told my family and friends that maybe one day I would get back together with him, and their response was that they would definitely not agree with me or support me.
A week ago, he sent me a message telling me everything I wanted to hear, that he had blocked his exes, that he knew what he had done was wrong, that he regretted it every day, that he still loved me, and that he would wait for me. That affected me because I know that it's just a matter of me accepting, and we'll be together again, but I can't, I mean, physically I can't. I want to be with him, but somehow I keep rejecting him, and I know that's the right thing to do. But I live with a contradiction within myself because I love him, but at the same time, I could never go back to him.
How can I get over it if I know I love him and I know he loves me?
