9 year old sore will not heal over properly, any advice is welcome
Pretty sure I have mild dermatillomania, but several times during these 9 years been able to collect myself and attempt to completely not pick for months at a time. To no avail.
The characteristics of the sore: doesn't really bleed, pretty flat in appearance/feel.
The first week of healing is usually fine, it heals over smoothly and the surface feels skin-like and "thin", there are no uneven edges or flakes to pick at at this stage it's truly "smooth" and pretty soft. No itching. I'm unsure if its bc of the repeated trauma but later on it will get thicker and not get past the itchy, cracked and flaking phase no matter how much I moisturize and after ages of unbearable itching I eventually go back to picking at it. Vicious cycle.. I've tried baby zinc paste, Vaseline, wrapping in plastic foil, sore salve and hydrocolloid patches but it always starts cracking.
Is there something to keep it from turning "thick" and flaking/ make it heal better and faster/ make it itch less? Any other advice?
