Meds, interaction with alcohol, and shift work. Any advice?

Medication & Side Effects

Hi all, I’m a woman in the UK diagnosed with ADHD-Inattentive. I work in hospitality and I love my job. On meds I’m fantastic!! I pride myself on my perfectionist-level performance, happy customers, good tips, and I even manage housework afterwards!!

The issue is; when I’m medicated, I’m great at work but also more likely to overdo it afterwards. In my industry the social culture = drinking, and stimulants lower my tolerance massively. I want to keep my success at work and maintain friendships, but it feels like I only have bandwidth for one or the other.

When I am unmedicated, I am still great at work but cannot manage life admin & socialising, so feel isolated and like I'm 'failing at life' because I struggle to keep up with housework.

My doctor only says that decreased alcohol tolerance "isn't a listed symptom", which isn't helpful at all - when I know that it's actually the other side effects of the meds (decreased appetite, dehydration) which are impacting this. I have sought non-pharmaceutical solutions but my local hospital is so overloaded they can't provide resources.

Has anyone else found a way to balance this? Especially the pressure of being “on” at work, then still having energy for socialising without burning out? I'm in my 20s and want to still have fun :(

How do you guys maintain a healthy diet and social life with the added pressure of an unmanageably uneven routine + the necessity of a strict routine in order for the meds to work effectively?

Keen to hear what solutions people have come up with!!
