Not recieving texts on TCL Flip 3

I bought a TCL Flip 3 second hand. I have a Verizon plan, my smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy s20 fe. I'm able to send texts, but not recieve them. Calls work fine both ways. I've turned of RCS on my smartphone, and deregistered my number from google's RCS. Any advice? Or should I just buy a non-secondhand flip phone? Will this potentially happen again?
