In my experience, adults tend to make connections with people they live near, people with similar careers, or people related to them.

On a planet of eight billion people, that leaves some pretty massive blind spots. I don't like the idea of there being whole swaths of the population who I'd never get to meet, simply because of mostly random circumstance.

At their worst, things like r4r can be a real mess, but at their best, I'd like to imagine they can help offset some of that compartmentalization. They're also far cheaper than moving to a foreign country and changing my career (and altering my DNA?).
