Almost to retirement being bullied by a young person on the cusp of their career bullying me
I don’t get it. This is not the first person of this age (27 yr old) to bully me (63 F). I just don’t understand why they seem to seek me out.
I’m about 2 years from being able to retire, and I have a young person who was just promoted up the food chain, who has absolutely no authority over me but seems to want to “nitpick” me to death.
Nothing I do is right. Nothing is good enough. I have complained to my boss, who has up until now advised me to ignore him.
But over this past week I’ve had enough. So, I met with my boss and our unit manager. I told them I want it to stop. I asked if either of them had a problem with my performance and was assured that I am seen by them as a valuable employee who does exceptional work.
I have a coworker who is the same age as me who does not have this issue. Her personality is night and day from mine. She has a sense of humor that I wish I had. I can be funny but in a more self deprecating way.
Is this just a common experience nowadays? I have always tried to treat people like I want to be treated. But once I am disrespected to this degree, all bets are off.
I have been assured by my boss and the unit manager that they will address the issue. And I am willing to give them time to “coach” this kid. But what do I do from here? Do I hope it stops, keep my head down and do my job?
