How to deal with the Yellowjackets?

Hello! I just wanted to know any methods you guys may have for warding away the wasps that plague many of the campsites. I went with my friends just a month ago, and we got completely swarmed with wasps. Even if we weren’t even taking out anything scented, it seemed like the act of us pulling out something these guys weren’t familiar with was enough for them to be all up in our faces.

I know the act of camping is to be with nature, but it’s very frustrating that I obviously can’t swat away or wave off a wasp, unlike with a fly or mosquito. I have to be very careful around them, all while they feast on my food in front of me.

I’m going in late September and has just wanted to ask, mainly because I’m going to go with my family, including my mother, who is pregnant. I’m just afraid of some kind of accident since she’s never been camping before, and don’t want just the anxiety of an army wasps stressing her out. I’ve seen reusable wasp traps as an option, but I just want to see what anyone else does to make these things buzz off.
