Don't Feel Mature Enough For Current Job - Advice?
Hey all. Currently 27 years of age, working out of a Civil Engineering firm local-ish to my area. I am not currently a Survey Tech in this position, no, I work as a Civil Designer where my company occasionally boots me outside when we need an extra set of hands as I was a Survey Tech for about three years before getting into this position.
To put it simply, I don't know, I just don't think I am emotionally mature enough for this job. My Manager is really strict on making sure my coworker double-checks my work with me to catch and go over any mistakes I might be making, which is probably a grand idea of course as I've only been at this for a year.
I just feel like I...rush? Sometimes make snap decisions without consulting the team on some things, maybe? I feel like what happened is either due to my own inexperience or wanting to meet a deadline, I would hustle and not double-check my work enough, and now I feel like my team doesn't trust the work I do when it comes to drafting. I wish I didn't do these things. I try not to do these things anymore, but regardless, the damage is done, you know? My supervisor makes the sorts of jokes that I anticipate out of a man seven years away from retiring to make in regards to not trusting my work, pointing out the sloppier moments and so on and normally I don't mind, but...it's hard sometimes when you're already focused on the fact that You Are Utter Shit and he's joking about "the kind of people we hire," you know?
I am hoping to return to the outdoors. I feel like sometimes at times being in the office all day is good for me mentally. I at least knew what I was doing to some degree with Surveying. I just wish I had gotten into this position three to five years into the future, when I'm more put together.
Thank you for reading all of this. Sorry for complaining as much as I have. I just feel a bit lost and sad. I want to be proud of the work I do, you know? I want my coworkers to say I do good work and mean it.
