i’ve never played an RPG before, is this game a good start?

( Please forgive me if this has been asked a lot.)

The title explains it well, but essentially i’ve never played Baldurs Gate (or any RPG for that matter) but the game has been peaking my interest for several months now. However, it’s quite expensive (i usually go for games on sale) and i don’t want to spend that money if I’m not going to like it/understand how to play it.

I do like story driven games, so that’s the thing that i’ve been eyeing the most, but i’m also aware that the game is visually stunning (which, again, i’ve been eyeing a lot).

I basically would like to know if it’s a good starting place for someone who’s never played an RPG before.

Or should I watch a few videos on the gameplay to see if it’s something i’ll like? i know i’ll find some spoilers in there but i’m not sure what else I can do to make sure it’s up my alley.
