Do I force my child to join a sport?
My 3 almost 4 year old was obsessed with hockey last winter. We went and watched games, watched it on TV, me and my wife who are poor skaters tried to teach him but couldnt quite get the hang of it.
Now this fall hockey registrations have come up and we surprised my son and told him the news. He seemed excited until he found out he has to go on the ice alone. (With coaches but without mom and dad)
Its been days and weve been trying to hype it up but hes an adamant NO.
He used to be in toddler gymnastics so I offered for him to join gymnastics instead, he seemed interested until he learned mom and dad wont be there with him just cheering him on the sidelines.
Im torn, hes an active boy and would benefit from being in a sport but refuses to go because were not there.
Do we ask for our refund and wait one more year? (This might put him behind skill wise compared to the other kids and behind next year)
Do we keep him signed up and force him to go? (Which may create a negative relationship towards organized activities and turn him away for good)
Me and the wife are really not sure what to do!
What would you do?
