Greek influence on TLOR

Reading the Pseudo-Apollodoro library, I found it curious how the cause of the ills of the Cadmus family comes from a divine gift.

I don't know why, but it reminded me of Sauron's ring, something "divine" (to say somehow), And the doubt arose.. can we consider it as an influence? or a mere coincidence?
