Pregabalin Withdrawal

Discussion

Greetings everyone,

I've been on Pregabalin coming up for 8 years and have decided to taper off (pretty slowly) to see if it were having any beneficial effects or if it's better for me to be off it. I was finding that my cognition (mental acuity) and memory were becoming more affective and didn't like that (feeling spaced out and almost dissociating). A lot of people talk about the immense brain fog that comes with Pregabalin but I find it hard to gauge as i was previously on Mirtazapine which is the most sedative medication i've ever experienced so Pregabalin brainfog felt quite airy/tipsy in comparison.

I've been reducing from 600mg (300mgx2) by 50mg every 2 weeks and have managed to get down to 500mg at the time of posting this. (I wanted to follow the Ashton Method of reducing by 10%) I was anticipating immense discomfort, neurological pain, insomnia, nausea etc. but have been pleasantly surprised (thus far) that i've not had too much of these; mild insomnia and mild nausea. However, I've now been getting immense brainfog; difficulty articulating, extreme effort and strain to think and converse with people, pure exhaustion and agitation. Basically feels like someones plugged my brain into an electrical socket.

I suppose i'm posting to ask people who have gone through Pregabalin or Gabapentin withdrawal what their experiences have been like? How did you find your taper and what were the things that helped power you through to the end? I've often heard that the beginning of the taper is easier than the end. Does that ring true to your experience?

I've been wanting to take my taper very slow as to have minimal side effects as I previously had a particuarly gnarly taper off of mirtazapine which was mildly traumatic and deeply strenous on my body and psyche. There's been a lot of Pregabalin withdrawl horror stories but when I read deeper into them it's coming from people who either Cold Turkey or take huge drops in dosage.

Any tips on how to mitigate the brain fog and exhaustion would be highly appreciated along with strenghtening my memory/cognition!

Thanks for reading :)

TL;DR: Any tips for pregabalin withdrawal?
