[NJ] Pre-Adverse Action Letter
Hi!
Prefacing this with I work in finance and have for over 10 years now.
I accepted a job offer and signed a contract with a new company a little over two weeks ago. I left my prior job after getting hired at this company. I received an email three business days before my start date with a Pre-Adverse Action letter. I contacted HR as I had never dealt with this before, and she directed me to call ADP. I received a copy of my background and credit check, the main points being:
-
I am in debt, around $50k.
-
There wound up being fraud on my credit report. A utility company in a state I’ve never even been to has an apartment listed under my name with a collection account of about $600.
-
My employment history only lists the company prior to the one I have just left.
ADP instructed me to dispute the fraud with the credit companies, which I did. I had a call with HR on Thursday and I tried to go over the report with her. After bringing up the fraud address, she told me that was one of the concerns. Another being that I checked “do not contact my employers” on my application (probably a stupid move, but I was currently employed and did not want my current company contacted.) I offered to send over screenshots of my dispute and the claim number, along with written permission to contact my prior employers. She said she would have to speak with her supervisor. I reached out again Friday to find out if I should come in today (my start date) with no response. I did wind up going in and reception told me the woman I need to speak with wasn’t in yet but she would reach out to me. I still haven’t heard anything but I’m not optimistic on the outcome.
What should my next steps be? I feel as though I’m bothering them trying to clear my name for this position. If I need to file for unemployment, will the fact that I signed a contract with the new company effect that?
