A Clan Divided: Double D Theory (part 1)

-The nature of the sea is to both unite and separate the world.

This is a pretty simple theory that I think has broader implications that are interesting. The crux of the theory is that the D Clan/ ancient kingdom operated with two leaders. The two D’s being two halfs of the same coin, one full moon or a sun. The main division is the ideology they believe will create a better world. Liberator D’s and Subjugator D’s. One side wants a world where everyone is free, the other side wants a world where everyone is controlled by one authority. [To temper possible negative connotations of the Subjugator D’s I believe Kidd and maybe Law could fall in this faction]

Why do I think this? -The fact that the two D holding the power of the sun and darkness suggest there’s an intentional relationship there. The natural assumption is that they’re natural enemies but I disagree with that for a few reasons

1. Teach isn’t characterized as being bad. Luffy and Teach bicker like cats and dogs over mundane topics but at their core they both believe in dreams.
2. The fact that Shanks’ plans relies on the Nika fruit just like his parallel, Teach’s plan relies on the Yami. Both are reaching for the same thing so the fruits likely serve similar purposes. Maybe both the leader of the dawn and the night have equal authority to access Laugh Tale fully.
3. The symbol for the Kuzuki clan, a close ally of the D and makers of the ponoglifs, is a combination of a crescent moon and the sun. The symbolism suggests some unity of the two concepts; The leadership of Zou, another close ally of the D clan, directly has a day and night king. This could be a system that they borrowed from the D clan; You could also maybe look at Fishman Island and say the ocean is moon symbolism and their desire to be welcomed under the sun also counts, but that’s a bit of a stretch.

What are the implications? If there are two D Clan leaders then their dreams and wills are both being passed down. I believe there have been 4 generations of inheritors so far:

Era First: Nika and Davy Jones

Era Third: Roger and Rocks

Era Fourth: Shanks and Teach —> Luffy and Teach (Shanks as a non-D was able to pass on the will, but knew he wasn’t the true inheritor)

Era Second : Joyboy and IMU (aka Sadboy)
