Airport Issue Advice

Hi there

I’ve recently had to start using a cane due to back and ankle issues and I can’t really manage my own luggage anymore— not even a backpack.

On a recent trip I asked the airport for help and they provided me with a wheelchair and person to push it. But I still needed to get my carryon on and off of the plane without assistance— which was difficult and painful.

Additionally, my connecting flight required a 20 minute plus wheelchair ride through the airport in a less than comfortable chair with tiny wheels that picked up every bump. By the time I boarded my next flight my lower back was in searing pain which lasted for days. Kind of defeats the purpose!

I’m curious if anyone has any advice on how to navigate this sort of thing. Or if anyone has discovered some kind of middle ground where your luggage is handled by some kind of assistance to and from your seat on the plane, but you are free to walk with your own assistive device (cane, etc).

Thanks.
