Help me decide on which compact lens to buy for travel photography

Gear

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on choosing a compact lens for travel photography.

So far, I’ve mostly been shooting with a 35mm lens (Sigma 35mm 1.4 dg dn on a7iv body), and I really like it. But now I’m considering something smaller and lighter for trips. My main dilemma is between the Sony Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 and the Sony 40mm f/2.5 G.

The thing is, I’ve just come across the TTArtisan 40mm f/2, which is way cheaper than both, but has more of that character look. I’m tempted to buy it just to see if I even like shooting with 40mm in the first place, before committing to one of the more expensive Sony options.

My concerns:

  • I’m a bit hesitant about moving from 35mm to 40mm. Will it feel limiting for travel shots?
  • Is the TTArtisan a good idea as a “test” lens for 40mm, or would I just end up disappointed in the long run compared to the Sonys?
  • If you had to choose, would you go Zeiss 35/2.8 or Sony 40/2.5 G as a dedicated travel lens?

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences, especially if you’ve used any of these lenses while traveling!

Here are a few recent shots from my travels, to show how I usually shoot.
